Rihanna was reportedly "shocked" at boyfriend and baby daddy A$AP Rocky's arrest, which took place on Wednesday 20 April at Los Angeles Airport as the pair returned from a vacation together in Barbados.

ICYMI, shortly after news broke that the rapper – whose real name is Rakim Mayers – had been arrested, the Los Angeles Police Department tweeted: "33-year-old Rakim Mayers, a Los Angeles resident, also known as music artist A$AP Rocky, has been arrested in connection to a shooting that occurred in the Hollywood area in November of 2021."

Since then, it's been revealed that A$AP has been under investigation for a shooting in LA on 6 November 2021 – until now, it had not previously been reported anywhere in the media. As details of the investigation emerged, we've learned that the alleged victim survived the shooting, and claimed to police that the rapper and two others approached him on the street while holding a handgun and shot at him three or four times, resulting in a "minor injury".

Now, TMZ reports that Rihanna – who is in the third trimester of her pregnancy, with fans believing she is due to give birth any day now – was "blindsided" by A$AP's arrest. According to the outlet, the musician was "shocked" by the whole ordeal.

"Cops chose not to give Rocky or his team a heads up," TMZ alleged. "In fact, we're told the arrest was more than a week in the making." The outlet also claimed they had spoken with police, who said the surprise arrest was a tactic "to see if they could find the gun used in the shooting."

The publication continued: "Cops wanted to find the gun and worried if they gave Rocky a heads up, he might [get rid of] it." TMZ reports that a search of A$AP's home was carried out at the same time of the arrest, in the hopes of finding the weapon.

Elsewhere, an insider source told Entertainment Tonight: "This arrest was not something they saw coming." The source went on, "This drama is the last thing Rihanna needs right now. She wants to be mellow, relaxed, and focused 100 percent on the arrival of her baby... not stressing out!"

Rihanna and A$AP are yet to release a public statement on the matter, but jail records show he has been released on bail.
