Rihanna Wore a Full-Face Gucci Balaclava to Coachella, As Only Rihanna Would

Rihanna wore a Gucci balaclava face mask and Fenty Beauty makeup to Coachella, as well as two other looks that she called "extra AF."

In general, “rules” are not really Rihanna’s thing, especially when it comes to fashion — which is why when everyone else showed up to Coachella in denim cut-offs and glitter highlighter, we shouldn't have been surprised that RiRi hit the festival in a full Gucci look straight off the runway, complete with thigh-high python boots, a sweatshirt, and a balaclava face mask. Not exactly the most practical look for the scorching temperatures of the desert, but when the rest of the world zigs, Rihanna hires a full hair, makeup, and wardrobe team and really, really zags.

According to Harper's Bazaar, the Gucci balaclava was inspired by the elaborate makeup performers wear in traditional Japanese Kabuki theater. Rih's version was decked out in sparkles, which made it slightly more Coachella-esque, even though it's hard to imagine wearing it in the heat.

In fairness, RiRi didn’t totally forego the classic Coachella uniform. Even though she covered her face in a balaclava instead of the usual rhinestones and star-shaped temporary tattoos, she did amp up the look with some glitter liner on the tops of her lids. It's also worth noting that the look was a sort of callback to one of her Coachella looks last year, which included a bedazzled surgical mask.

The singer also shared videos of herself getting ready on her Instagram story, and revealed that "Fairy Bomb is life" when it comes to achieving the perfect face beat, even if your entire face is going to be covered.

In addition to her head-to-toe Gucci look, Rihanna graced us with two other high-fashion moments during her time in the Coachella Valley. On Saturday, she sported a '60s-inspired all-white look, complete with white boots, white pants, and a white top tied at the waist. She dusted her lids with an icy blue shadow and her lips with a metallic bronze gloss.

She also wore what appeared to be an artfully tied piece of caramel-colored chiffon and enormous matching boots, all of which even she admits was "extra AF." Her hair was in a messy updo tied with a Gucci ribbon, and she mixed her Coachella VIP bracelets with lots (and lots) of gold bangles.

Though Rihanna's outfits were unlike anything anyone else at the festival was wearing, she did have at least one thing in common with her fellow Coachella attendees. She took to Instagram on Sunday to share that she was "still not over" Beyoncé's history-making performance on Saturday night. And honestly? Same.
