TETRIS KELLY: We sat down with Ricky Martin, who's opening up about his new single and the impact of tragedy on life in music. Speaking of "Que Rico Fuera," featuring Paloma Mami, what word best describes the track?

PALOMA MAMI: Trying to think of a big word but I'm going to just say "lit."

RICKY MARTIN: Lit.

PALOMA MAMI: Lit--

RICKY MARTIN: [SPEAKING SPANISH]

PALOMA MAMI: --hit. Lit, hit, I know what else.

RICKY MARTIN: Freak!

TETRIS KELLY: It's not the only song we discussed, he touched on the Pulse tribute song.

RICKY MARTIN: Yes, you know, we started working on something, it didn't turn out to be what I wanted. But I said, now more than ever I need to really be part of this celebration. And and, of course, definitely, "Que Rico Fuera" [SPEAKING IN SPANISH]

JESSICA ROIZ: Aw.

RICKY MARTIN: [SPEAKING IN SPANISH]

JESSICA ROIZ: Oh, yeah

TETRIS KELLY: He speaks on the One Pulse Foundation.

RICKY MARTIN: So, obviously, I was very affected when the massacre happened-- and angry, and frustrated and sad. And, you know, it took me a minute to really take it all in. Last year I was able to go to Pulse and I met with the owner of Pulse, and they just want to keep the spirits alive. They just want to build this beautiful memorial so we can all go there in silence, and pray and pay tribute to those people that all they wanted to do was dance.

One dollar of thousands of people is-- it does make a difference. And at the end of the day, it's like, it was a horrible event, and in order for us to give comfort to the survivors, to the families of the victims, to everyone, why not build this beautiful shrine? So we can just go there and just send good thoughts to everyone.

TETRIS KELLY: Ricky also signed our very own initiative we launched Monday in honor of the Pulse anniversary. It's an open letter to senators for gun control and reform. Thanks, Ricky. And to bring it full circle, Pulse also inspired the new single.

RICKY MARTIN: All they wanted was to dance, and to be honest, I wanted to release this song as soon as possible because all I want is for people to dance. [STAMMERING] They were part of the inspiration of this release, to be honest.
