Richard Dreyfuss just found out he had a role in Stormy Daniels and Donald Trump's alleged Shark Week viewing party
Turns out Richard Dreyfuss had a starring role in one of Donald Trump’s meetings with Stormy Daniels, and even he can’t come to terms with it.
As Daniels explained to Anderson Cooper in the highly anticipated interview featured on last Sunday’s episode of 60 Minutes, in which she detailed an alleged affair with Trump, the two once watched an entire documentary on shark attacks, at his request. It supposedly happened when Daniels and the future leader of the free world met at the Beverly Hills Hotel to talk about her becoming a contestant on Celebrity Apprentice in the summer of 2007. (Trump has denied Daniels’s claims.)
As she told it, the encounter happened during “Shark Week,” when the Discovery Channel airs shark-themed shows. The Wrap deduced that the show Trump and Daniels most likely watched together was Ocean of Fear: The Worst Shark Attack Ever, which aired on July 29, 2007, and depicted the tragic story of the USS Indianapolis. The World War II ship was torpedoed by the Japanese in 1945, and about 900 of the 1,200 men aboard died of drowning, dehydration, and, of course, shark attacks.
Enter Dreyfuss, who narrated that show, not only because he has a fantastic voice — all layered and confident — but also because he starred in Jaws, the iconic movie about a fake killer shark that mentions the true story of the ship. One of the movie’s central characters, the late Robert Shaw’s Quint, is a survivor of the Indianapolis, a fact that obviously impresses oceanographer Matt Hooper, played by Dreyfuss.
Dreyfuss’s adult son, Ben Dreyfuss, who’s also an actor, pointed out the revelation to his dad, to which the elder Dreyfuss had the same response many people might have had.

Dreyfuss’s response was a lot more tame than what he might have said in the past. The Hollywood Reporter captured a string of tweets that he offered back in 2016 that made it clear he did not support Trump. In fact, he used the hashtag #NeverTrump in one of his now-deleted tweets. In another post, the month before Trump’s election, Dreyfuss referred to the former Apprentice host as “a disgusting, dangerous pig.”
Dreyfuss is notably the founder of the Dreyfuss Civics Initiative, which identifies as a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization on its website. Its mission is “to revive the teaching of civics in American public education to empower future generations with the critical-thinking skills they need to fulfill the vast potential of American citizenship.”
In other words, Dreyfuss surely has a lot more to say on the subject. Perhaps he’ll talk about it if you get him drunk on a boat while you’re out hunting sharks.
