The New York Giants hold the No. 2 overall pick in the NFL Draft later this month, putting them in a prime position to pick up a high-caliber player for their franchise.

Many are speculating that the Giants will take a quarterback first that they can use to eventually replace 37-year-old Eli Manning, who likely doesn’t have too many seasons left under his belt.

One NFL talent evaluator, who spoke to Matt Lombardo of NJ Advance Media on the condition of anonymity, said the Giants have one quarterback specifically in mind.

“If (Sam) Darnold is available, they’re taking Darnold,” he said. “They don’t like (Josh) Rosen.”

Darnold and Rosen — along with Josh Allen — are two of the top three quarterbacks available in this year’s draft. In many NFL mock drafts, the three are picked to be the first three picked.

Though it is widely believed that the Cleveland Browns — who hold the top pick — are going to select either Allen or Darnold. Then if Darnold is still available, per the NFL talent evaluator, he’s going to the Giants.

If Darnold ends up going to Cleveland, the Giants are already working on a backup plan.

“Their top three choices are Darnold, Saquan Barkley and Bradley Chubb,” the evaluator said. “They are debating Barkley vs. Chubb, because they need an edge rusher but the scouts love Barkley.”

Darnold threw for 4,143 yards, 26 touchdowns and 13 interceptions last season for USC. Rosen, by comparison, threw for 3,756 yards, 26 touchdowns and 10 interceptions for UCLA last year.

Allen only threw for 1,812 yards last season, however racked up more than 3,200 yards and 28 touchdowns during his sophomore campaign for Wyoming.
