One day after the death of former N.C. State and Green Bay Packers defensive lineman Carlos Gray, a second man has been found dead, apparently in retaliation for Gray’s death, according to the Associated Press.

Per the report:

A statement from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department said Darryl Thomas, 21, of Center Point appeared to have been killed in retribution for the shooting death of former Packers defensive lineman Carlos Gray, 25.

Thomas’ body was found along a road near Birmingham [Ala.] on Tuesday, the day after Gray’s body was found in his home, also near Birmingham.

The report described Thomas’ body as “bullet-riddled” and added that four suspects, including at least one “believed to be a close friend of Gray” were in custody. No charges were filed in the immediate wake of either death.

According to the AP story, Thomas and one other man were kidnapped at a convenience store Tuesday morning, just hours after Gray’s death. A man who managed to escape the kidnappers went to the police to report the kidnapping, claiming he and Thomas were taken by several men at gunpoint. He had escaped at an intersection but Thomas had not. A passer-by discovered Thomas’ body later in the day.

On Monday night, officers had found weapons, digital scales and marijuana inside Gray’s residence, and his death is believed to be drug-related.

Gray spent three years at N.C. State, redshirting in 2011 and then seeing action as a reserve in 2012. Gray emerged as a starter in 2013 and totaled 23 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. He left school for the NFL but went undrafted and was among the Packers’ final training camp cuts months later.
