UCLA traveled to Utah in Week 10 without its star quarterback.

Bruins’ quarterback Josh Rosen didn’t go to Salt Lake City for Friday’s game. He reportedly has a concussion.

Rosen was on the sidelines for much of the second half of UCLA’s Week 9 loss at Washington. As he stood on the sidelines, ESPN analyst Brock Huard mused about the possibility of Rosen missing the second half because of an injury to a finger and how NFL scouts could view his toughness.

UCLA coach Jim Mora dismissed anything Huard has to say about football on Monday while refusing to comment on the specificity of Rosen’s injury. Mora’s withholding suddenly makes a lot more sense if Rosen has a concussion. And a player’s toughness should never, ever, be questioned in the context of a brain injury.

Freshman Devon Modster replaced Rosen vs. Washington and figures to get the start against the Utes. He was 7-12 passing for 77 yards and a touchdown in that game.

Rosen, meanwhile, is 212-336 for 2,713 yards, 20 touchdowns and eight interceptions.
