Georgia QB Jake Fromm breaks bone in non-throwing hand
Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Jake Fromm continues to have a terrible offseason. A month after Fromm got a fishing lure stuck in his leg, the 19-year-old broke a bone in his non-throwing hand, according to Rivals.com.
The news was subsequently confirmed to ESPN by Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart.
How did Jake Fromm break his hand?
According to Rivals, Fromm was injured while out on the water once again, but this incident was a “freak” accident. From Rivals:
Apparently Fromm was with a group of friends who were trying to get someone up on a wake board, and their pull rope slipped away, snapping the attached handle back to hit Fromm in the hand. It was just a freak accident as all Fromm was doing was sitting in the back of the boat. The Georgia quarterback was just unlucky.
How long will Jake Fromm be sidelined with the injury?
Here’s the good news: Fromm isn’t expected to miss time. The break is small, according to Fox 5. Rivals is reporting that Fromm will wear he a splint for a couple weeks and won’t need a cast. Smart deemed the injury “insignificant” and told ESPN that his starting QB will not miss any summer workouts.
How will the Georgia Bulldogs deal with the injury?
The Bulldogs don’t have to do much at this point. The team just needs to keep his left hand protected so it can fully heal.
Fromm put up strong numbers with the team last season, throwing for 2,615 yards, 24 touchdowns and seven interceptions as a freshman. He helped lead the Bulldogs to the College Football Playoff title game, where they lost to the Alabama Crimson Tide in overtime.
If Fromm somehow misses time, the team can turn to No. 1 overall recruit Justin Fields. The Bulldogs are in good shape either way.
A bad offseason continues for Fromm
Fromm has had a tough go of it this offseason. He was involved in a gruesome incident in June involving a fishing lure. The lure got stuck in his left leg, and Fromm took a trip to a local medical center to have it removed.
Considering his luck the past few months, Fromm might just want to spend the rest of his off time covered in bubble wrap. Misfortune seems to be following him everywhere right now.
