Report: CFP board discussing breaking away from the NCAA

College football could once again be headed for a massive change.

According to Pete Thamel of ESPN, the College Football Playoff’s Board of Managers met Monday and discussed the possibility of restructuring how college football is governed.

Multiple sources told Thamel that this included football being governed outside of the NCAA and that the “most logical place” would be under the College Football Playoff.

While these discussions are still in the preliminary stages and it was discussed for “about five minutes,” it is a major change and could mark the future of college football.

They also discussed future models of the College Football Playoff and whether they could change it before the current contract ends after the 2025 season.

The CFP Board of Managers consists of presidents from all 10 major conferences and Rev. John Jenkins of Notre Dame.
