Report: Brady, Belichick's free agency conversation 'didn't go well'

The end of the NFL’s most successful partnership could be coming soon.

Tom Brady, as you may have heard somewhere, is a pending free agent and will be seriously courted by other teams for the first time in his illustrious career. It’s been widely speculated that Brady will leave the New England Patriots once free agency commences.

Brady spoke to Patriots head coach Bill Belichick and the conversation reportedly “didn’t go well” as Karen Guregian of the Boston Herald reports.

One of the main points of contention is that Belichick reportedly spoke to Brady as if he were still under contract with the Patriots—and he is, until March 18—as opposed to an impending free agent, Tom Curran of NBC Sports reports.

It’s been reported that the Las Vegas Raiders, Los Angeles Chargers and Tennessee Titans are all interested in pursuing Brady and a new compelling suitor is reportedly joining the list of contenders.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk speculated that Brady could join the San Francisco 49ers, his hometown team, where his former apprentice Jimmy Garoppolo just led the team to a Super Bowl appearance. Hall of Fame cornerback and NFL Network analyst Deion Sanders took it a step further, proposing that the 49ers could trade Garoppolo and sign Brady.

It’s worth noting, however, that Sanders played for the 49ers in 1994, winning a Super Bowl in his lone season with the club.

No decision has been made yet, of course but football fans everywhere should prepare themselves for the separation of the sport’s most successful duo, while the Patriots ought to develop a contingency plan in the very real chance that Brady leaves.
