President Joe Biden's son Hunter will be an oversight priority for Republicans if they win a House majority in November "because we view Hunter Biden as a national security risk," Rep. James Comer of Kentucky said Tuesday on Fox Business.

Comer, the House Oversight and Reform Committee's ranking Republican, said committee members are already investigating Hunter Biden's iinternational business dealings in Russia and China. Comer would be favored to take over the chairmanship of the panel should the GOP win back the House.

Republicans hope to find wrongdoing they can link to President Joe Biden ahead of the 2024 presidential election, putting the White House on the defensive if Biden chooses to run for a second term. Comer alleged Biden "had a great deal of knowledge with respect to Hunter's business dealings" and questioned whether Biden is "turning a blind eye to China" because of his son.

"There are decisions that Joe Biden's making every day in this White House that are questionable, that go against what I think the majority of Americans would expect from the White House, and yet, these decisions are made in my opinion, because he was compromised by his son's shady business dealings," he said.

Hunter Biden has previously disclosed a federal investigation into his taxes. No evidence has suggested that his work influenced Joe Biden's policy decisions.
