Red Sox first-rounder takes shot at Pablo Sandoval's weight right after getting drafted
A question: What’s the best way to make an excellent first impression on Boston Red Sox fans? An answer: Take a shot at Pablo Sandoval’s weight.
We have Triston Casas to thank for that tip. Shortly after being drafted by the Red Sox in the first round of the 2018 MLB Draft on Monday, Casas decided to bring up one of the team’s biggest free-agent busts in recent memory.

Ouch. That hurts. MLB.com reporter Mark Feinsand asked Casas what he’ll have to do to remain at third base long-term. Casas said he would have to watch his weight. He then added, “There was another third baseman in Boston called Sandoval who had some problems.”
Red Sox fans should delight in hearing their first-round pick doesn’t plan to be anything like Sandoval, who hit .237/.286/.360 in his time with the club.
At the same time, Casas might not want to compare himself to Sandoval. Sure, his time in Boston was bad, but Sandoval has seen a fair amount of success in the majors. He’s received MVP votes, made All-Star teams and won championships with the San Francisco Giants.
In that sense, maybe Casas could learn a thing or two from Sandoval. If he can endear himself to the Red Sox fanbase the same way Sandoval is beloved by Giants fans, he’ll be in pretty good shape … no pun intended.
