Tech lands 1,000-yard rusher from Houston St. Thomas
Texas Tech finalized all or nearly all of its 2023 football recruiting class in December, but the Red Raiders are already off to a good start reeling in this year's high-school juniors.
They added to the collection on Thursday. Johann Cardenas, a 6-foot, 215-pound running from Houston St. Thomas, announced he's pledged to the Red Raiders. Cardenas rushed for 1,041 yards and 13 touchdowns in seven games this season for a team that finished 10-2.
The On3 recruiting service ranks Cardenas as the No. 13 prospect in the state for the class of 2024 and No. 58 in the nation. The 247Sports recruiting service ranks Cardenas as the No. 61 prospect in the state. He's also been offered scholarships by Colorado, Colorado State, SMU and UT-San Antonio.
Cardenas is the seventh recruit to pledge to Tech among this year's high-school juniors.
