A colleague divulged the reason for the host's lengthy absence from the morning broadcast.

Today viewers have finally been offered an explanation concerning Hoda Kotb's sudden absence from the broadcast.

Wednesday morning, it was revealed by a colleague that she has been missing for over a week due to a family health situation.

"We know a lot of you have been wondering how she is doing. We can tell you that Hoda is OK. She has got a family health matter that she has been dealing with," journalist Craig Melvin explained on-air, before adding, "We look forward to seeing Hoda and Savannah [Guthrie] back here at the desk very, very soon," referencing Guthrie’s current bout with the coronavirus.

After noticing Kotb was missing from her usual seat for several days in a row, fans grew increasingly concerned about the status and whereabouts of the media veteran as she uploaded a string of cryptic posts on Instagram during her unexplained time away.

As for Guthrie, the 51-year-old had been on the show on Tuesday, Feb. 28, but left abruptly after feeling under the weather, per Parade's previous report.

The show's official Twitter account also took to social media with the update, writing, "Both @SavannahGuthrie and @HodaKotb are off today, with Savannah recovering from a positive COVID-19 diagnosis. As for Hoda, she is okay and handling a family health matter. We’re sending our love to them both and can’t wait to see them in the studio soon."

Kotb made her last live appearance on the show on Feb. 17 and has yet to personally address anything further.
