These low-carb sandwiches are made with ... peppers?

DILLON THOMPSON: Can you really make a sandwich out of bell peppers? This low-carb, viral food hack says you can. But is it really time to toss out the bread and start putting our sandwich supplies into vegetables? To find out, we're gonna make the bell pepper sandwich from TikTok and compare it with a regular sandwich with the same ingredients. Let's do this.

This hack has actually been around for a long time, but it just keeps getting more and more popular. And the reason why is because apparently, the crispy crunch of a bell pepper goes perfectly with sandwich ingredients like turkey, lettuce, and mustard. And of course, it's a lower carb option than eating all that bread.

But I'm pretty skeptical about this. To me, a sandwich is all about the bread. That'd be like having cereal with no milk, or peanut butter with no jelly, or my face with no mustache. But let's give it a go anyway.

So to make this, we're gonna cut the top and bottom off of a bell pepper. Then, cut it right down the middle and remove the white part in the center with all those seeds. Once we have our bell pepper bread ready to go, we can fill this with any ingredients we want. I'm gonna use the toppings that I keep seeing the most on TikTok, which is cream cheese, followed by lettuce, then some turkey-- I use vegan turkey since I'm vegetarian-- then cheese, and then a little bit of mustard to top it all off because it is supposed to be a sandwich, after all.

Now, it's time to compare. So to do this, we have a regular bread-based sandwich that we're gonna test up against our bell pepper sandwich and see what really works best. We're gonna compare this thing on two main points of criteria-- taste and Snapability, which is how good that sandwich looks when you post it on your Snap story.

First up, taste. To make things really fair, I'm gonna start out with the regular sandwich. Oh, yeah. I mean, good sandwich.

Time for our big old, crispy, crunchy, low-carb bell pepper sandwich. Mmm. Mmm. That's really good, to be honest. I'm kind of surprised. The flavor does go really well together. The crisp and crunch actually adds another element to the sandwich. And of course, it's all about the ingredients you put on there in the first place.

My only downside would be that I don't know if I can eat a whole one of these things. It's a lot of bell pepper to bite through. But on first bite, it's pretty yummy. I'll give it a four out of five.

Next up, Snapability. So these things definitely look pretty weird. The only downside I have for posting a Snap story is it's hard to keep these things together. They fall apart right after you take a bite out of them.

So if you're gonna post them, I would do it before you eat anything in them. That said, they look way crazier than a regular sandwich, with like the crazy colors from a bell pepper. So I'm gonna give it a four out of five as well for Snapability.

All right, let's tally up our totals. So putting our scores together, this thing actually gets an 8 out of 10, which is a really, really good grade. Still, it's not enough for me to give up bread for good. I think I'm gonna have to stick with the tried and true formula-- my big old hunk of carb-loaded, bread-based sandwich.
