If you are prone to biting your nails when you're nervous/bored like me (I didn't only lose 2 hours and 13 minutes of my life to Fantastic Beasts, I lost all my nails too) then you will know how appealing the idea of acrylic nails can be.

My short stubby nails will never get their own Instagram post, in fact they are actually an Instagram hindrance. For instance, If I'm trying to take a picture of my new highlighter, I have to hold it in an incredibly awkward fist shape, to avoid anyone knowing the truth of my Jonah Hill hands.

Beauty blogger Amelia Perrin can not relate to my struggles, because she has the kind of enviably long talons that people like me can only dream of…

But Amelia also revealed the painful truth behind an acrylic nail addiction. Taking to Twitter, she posted a picture of her real nails and oh god it's making me stress bite my own nails.

Admittedly I'm an absolute baby when it comes to things like this but that looks INCREDIBLY PAINFUL.

Maybe I'm not being such a baby after all...

Amelia told us that she has been wearing acrylic nails continuously for around 6 years (now thats commitment) with no breaks in-between.

Although she normally gets her nails removed professionally in the salon before getting a new set applied, Amelia had ripped her acrylics off as she didn't have time to go the nail salon. Something which she doesn't recommend anyone else doing.

But if you have a fake nail addiction, not all hope is lost. Celebrity nail artist, Britney Tokyo who looks after the talons of Kim Kardashian, Rita Ora and FKA Twigs explained to Racked that it's actually the removal of acrylics and gel nails that causes the damage. As she explained, "it's not bad for your nails, but incorrectly removing them can lead to damage."

Britney's one piece of advice? "I never want anyone to peel off their gel or acrylic nails. By peeling off, the original nails can get severely damaged and very thin." And if you want to remove your gels or acrylics at home, Britney recommends soaking them in a nail removal acetone.

So, its not all bad news for you false nail addicts out there, your grid can continue to look like it belongs to a hand model.

But what about Amelia? Well after taking biotin supplements for five days there was a drastic improvement in her nails.

And she's back in the game…

I think I'll just stick with my Jonah Hill fingers.
