Chip and Joanna Gaines Have Officially Announced the First TV Show for Their New Network

• Chip and Joanna Gaines ended Fixer Upper in April 2018 to spend more time with their growing family.

• The HGTV stars announced in November 2018 that they were partnering with Discovery to return to TV with their own network.

• Chip and Joanna confirmed that their new channel, which will likely have Magnolia in the title, will debut in October 2020.

Chip and Joanna Gaines broke America’s hearts when they announced they were leaving their popular show Fixer Upper behind. A life without Jo’s designs, Chip’s quips, and a heavy dose of shiplap just seemed too bleak to imagine.

Thankfully, the HGTV hosts gave everyone hope once again when they announced they're coming back to TV—and not just with a singular show, but with a whole new network that features home design, cooking, and children’s programs. But even Joanna has admitted, it's a much taller task than their previous gig.

"When I think back to what Chip and I have done together over the past 16 years, it all felt insurmountable at the time. Whether it was flipping our first house together, opening our own business or having kids, there were just so many unknowns," she wrote in a post on her blog.

But she also added she's not going to let the fear keep her down. "When I get nervous or afraid, the part that gets me up every day is that fact that we get to climb these steep mountains together," she said. "We have grown to love the unknown and the risks and challenges that come with it. That’s what makes us feel alive and young."

Here’s everything we know about Chip and Joanna’s return to TV so far.

When will it premiere?

Chip and Joanna's new network will premiere in October 2020. Joanna took to social media to share more about the news, adding that she hopes tuning in to their lineup, "feels like home."

The Gaineses are already filming for some of the series (don’t even get us started on our JLo theories), and Joanna promises, "It's gonna be good."

Have they decided on any shows?

Yes! Chip and Joanna issued a press release announcing the first series for the network. It has the working title Home on the Road, and will follow husband and wife Abner Ramirez and Amanda Sudano Ramirez as they tour North America with their band JOHNNYSWIM and their kids Joaquin and Luna.

The six-episode series will highlight the group's stops in Dallas, Jacksonville, New York, Chattanooga, Charleston, Los Angeles, and Waco, Texas. The family will also explore each city's unique food and culture scene.

What else can we expect?

The couple released a first look at what the network will be like on their Magnolia blog. If the trailer and below Instagram are any indication, we’re in for a beautiful array of programming (and antics from go-to goof, Chip). Honestly, we’re getting goosebumps just watching it!

As for exactly what they have in store, Chip and Joanna are still ironing out the details.

“We have started the process of exploring ideas for shows and the ways in which we’ll curate and produce them,” Joanna wrote on her site. “Since we started this journey we’ve known one thing for certain: we believe there are good stories waiting to be told and we can’t wait to tell them."

What network will Chip and Joanna Gaines be on?

Chip and Joanna are partnering with Discovery on their next adventure. Discovery is the parent company to HGTV, so the couple will have at least some familiar faces in this phase of their career. A website and a streaming service are also reportedly in the works.

The unfortunate side effect, though, is that the Gaines channel will replace DIY Network, which currently houses favorites like Rehab Addict and Wood Work. It's not quite clear what will happen to the existing programs, as a source told People the following:

“More information about programming for the new Magnolia network will be announced in the coming months, but this will be a total rebrand. All of the content for the new network will be inspired by Magnolia and curated by Chip and Joanna."

Will their five kids be on TV?

Yes! Drake, Ella, Duke, Emmie Kay, and baby Crew will all be a part of the Magnolia network—but only as much as they want to be.

"The kids are very aware of what this is and why we’re doing it. If the kids want to be on it, they’ll be on it," Joanna told USA Today. "As they got older, we just never wanted to force the scene, we always told our kids, 'If you want to be part of this, we’ll put a mic on you.' If the kids want to do it, we would gladly welcome it, but we’ll leave it up to them."

They appear to love helping mom and dad out, though. Joanna recently revealed that her little ones, who just helped her write her first children’s book, have been heavily involved in the planning. “Even our kids are excited,” she told People. “They’ll say to us, ‘You guys should do this or try that.’ They’ve really been helping us with market research.”

Is Fixer Upper coming back?

Though we all wish that they’d revive their original show, we haven’t heard anything to suggest that Fixer Upper is getting a reboot. But with hits like Trading Spaces and While You Were Out getting a second shot, we can always hope that Chip and Jo will take another crack at the original.

The good news, however, is that their new network will, "also will be home to the complete library of Fixer Upper," according to Deadline. Yep, that's the best news we've heard all day, too!
