Prepare yourself, dear reader, for a Broadway-worthy soundtrack inspired by Netflix’s “biggest show ever,” Bridgerton. This morning, viral music duo Barlow & Bear announced on TikTok that their concept album, The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical, will debut on September 10th.

The album’s 15 original songs, inspired by the show’s first season, are written and performed by Abigail Barlow, 22, and Emily Bear, 19. Bear will also serve as the producer.

Barlow and Bear began collaborating to create and perform the songs on TikTok in January, amassing 36 million likes, more than 2 million followers, and nearly 200 million views on the #bridgertonmusical hashtag. The viral videos and songs caught the attention of major media outlets and even the actual Bridgerton cast, who were asked about the viral videos.

The duo has built a solid following, in part by frequently live-streaming their writing sessions and giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at how their music is made. “The duo has broken new ground by involving their audience in their process every step of the way via social media, and will be mirroring this direct-to-consumer distribution by self-releasing the album on all major streaming and downloading music services,” a press release described.

The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical concept album is poised to delight fans and new listeners alike with its sweeping orchestrations, clever lyrics, power ballads, and pop topline,” per the official statement. “The result is a uniquely contemporary score with classical, pop and Broadway influences.”

Barlow says she began writing pop songs when she was 16, and her recent hit “Heartbreak Hotel” landed at #2 on the iTunes pop charts. Using social media to promote her work, Barlow caught the attention of pop musician Meghan Trainor, whom Barlow now calls her biggest mentor.

A child prodigy, Bear started composing classical music as a toddler. Since then, she’s scored music for Disney, DreamWorks, Warner Brothers, and Universal, and has already been honored by the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Her long-time mentor Quincy Jones says, “I have been in the business for over 70 years now and I have yet to see another artist like her,” per the press release.

Barlow & Bear will perform at Broadway’s Elsie Fest in New York City on August 29.
