Reactor at Khmelnytskyi NPP shut down after Russian missile attack

“Today, the Ukrainian regulator also informed the IAEA that two of the three operating Ukrainian nuclear power plants (NPPs) – Rivne and South Ukraine – had reduced power output as a precautionary measure due to renewed shelling of the country’s energy infrastructure,” the report says.
“The instability in the electrical grid from the shelling also caused one of the Khmelnytskyi reactor units to shut down.”
The IAEA mission located at Ukrainian nuclear power plants confirmed the report from Ukrainian nuclear operator Energoatom. At the same time, all nuclear safety systems at the Khmelnitsky NPP continue to work nominally.
The IAEA also reported that electricity production at the Zaporizhzhia NPP will be resumed only after it’s back under Ukrainian control and safe working conditions are restored.
The Russian military unleashed a new barrage of missile and drone attacks on a number of Ukrainian regions overnight on Feb. 10. Cruise missiles were launched from Black Sea Fleet and strategic bombers.

Damage to energy infrastructure and high-voltage facilities was reported by national power operator Ukrenergo in Dnipropetrovsk, Khmelnytskyi, Kharkiv, and Zaporizhzhia oblasts.
According to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, air defenses have shot down 61 of 71 incoming missiles.
