These Are The Best And Worst "American Horror Story" Seasons Since The Show Started In 2011

If there's one thing I look forward to every fall, it's the return of American Horror Story.
The anthology series debuted in October 2011 and has delivered fans terrifying tales season after season.
Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, and Evan Peters quickly became fan favorites of the show, and have played some of the best characters since.
As we patiently wait for AHS: NYC to premiere, here's a look back at the best and worst seasons over the years.
10.AHS: Roanoke (2016)
Rating: 1.5/10
It's probably safe to say AHS fans collectively didn't love Roanoke. While the meta concept sounded good in theory, it ended up being a chaotic plot with way too many story lines being packed into a season. Either way, you still need to add it to your watchlist if you don't want to miss a beat in the AHS universe.
9.AHS: Double Feature (2021)
Rating: 3/10
When word got out it was a two-part season in one, fans couldn't have been more elated. While two mini seasons could have been great, it left audiences craving more since they weren't able to fully flesh out each story in the few episodes they got.
8.AHS: Freak Show (2014-15)
Rating: 4/10
This season took us to Jupiter, Florida where we met Elsa Mars and the unique characters that made up her freak show. The biggest highlight of the season? Finn Wittrock's performance as Dandy Mott. Oh, and who can forget Twisty the Clown? While all of these things were great, it still fell short despite the authentic retro feel.
7.AHS: Hotel (2015-2016)
Rating: 6/10
Hotel was the first season that welcomed Lady Gaga to the AHS universe. The Hotel Cortez and the plethora of ghostly residents that called it home made this season especially interesting. Plus, Gaga delivered on her very first role in the series.
6.AHS: Cult (2017)
Rating: 6.5/10
From clowns to trypophobia, this was the season that played on real-life fears in the everyday. Evan Peters played not one but FIVE different characters in this season alone which was nothing short of a feat itself. Although the story had some unexpected twists and turns, it still left us on the edge of our seats 'til the final episode.
5.AHS: 1984 (2019)
Rating: 7/10
Who doesn't love a good slasher? 1984 gave us those campy vibes with quirky characters like Montana and Trevor. With a nod to the "final girls" and plenty of '80s throwbacks, this season had all the makings of a classic horror film.
4.AHS: Apocalypse (2018)
Rating: 7.5/10
Crossover season? Yes, please. Easter eggs are a big part of the AHS world, and Apocalypse gave us all the connections we never knew we needed. Season 8 reintroduced Murder House and Coven for OG fans of the series, easily making it one of my top five on this list.
3.AHS: Asylum (2012-2013)
Rating: 8/10
Alexa: Play "The Name Game." If you remember this song, you also recall the memorable musical performance in Season 2. Asylum brought us notable characters like Lana Winters, Dr. Oliver Thredson, and Sister Mary Eunice McKee as we entered the world of Briarcliff. There was a lot to unpack throughout the season, but it kept audiences engaged 'til the very end.
2.AHS: Murder House (2011)
Rating: 10/10
It was the titular season that started it all, and the reason most of us started loving AHS in the first place (myself included). From the endless amount of ghosts to the iconic house itself, the pilot season was one for the books.
1.AHS: Coven (2013-2014)
Rating: 12/10
If you know the phrase "on Wednesdays, we wear black," you probably consider Coven the great AHS season of them all. The New Orleans cityscape, witchy vibes, and Stevie Nicks cameos are just a few things that made this magical season the supreme.
