Kaapo Kakko is officially on the board.

During Saturday’s matinee against the Edmonton Oilers, the second overall selection of the 2019 NHL Draft recorded his first NHL goal. Knowing you only score your first NHL goal once, the young New York Rangers forward made it count.

After splitting the defense, Kakko took a nice feed from Ryan Strome and then proceeded to make Mike Smith look silly with an excellent deke to cap it all off, giving the Rangers a 1-0 lead.

It only took the highly-skilled rookie three games to pot his first marker. And for those of you who are counting at home, the goal puts Kakko ahead 1-0 in the rookie points race against Jack Hughes - through four games, the first overall pick is still searching for his first goal.
