While redesigning a 30-year-old Montana ranch home, Kylee Shintaffer enlisted the help of eclectic decor items—including patterned rugs, woven baskets, a style of woodworking known as tramp art, and arrowheads, to name a few—to "create a sense of authenticity that anchors the home to its surroundings."

The end result is a dwelling that's very opposite of its original form—which was "very modest and lacked character," reveals Shintaffer. She collaborated with an architect to "re-work the spaces and introduce materials that made the house feel more in keeping with its exterior surroundings." As such, glulam beams were wrapped in reclaimed hand-hewn timbers, while reclaimed wood was added throughout the house to provide character and warmth.

The Twin Bridges abode was designed to be used mainly in the fall and spring—the ideal time to enjoy the scenic river views and two screened porches. So it's only fitting that its interior color palette reflects the foliage that surrounds the house during autumn, peppered with pops of a vibrant green reminiscent of spring buds.

"We wanted the covered porch to have the same sense of comfort and layering as the interior rooms, so we used a mix of woven furniture, antique tables, and lamps, along with vintage horse blankets and textiles," explains Shintaffer. She adds that the colors of the fabrics and textiles "echo the tones of grasses and foliage along the river," allowing for a chic matchy-matchy moment.

"The living room embodies the spirit of the house and the property it sits on," says Shintaffer. In this particular space, the original fireplace was removed and replaced with a local moss-rock, while reclaimed hand-hewn timbers were added to the walls and ceiling. Additionally, the original windows here were replaced, and an eclectic mix of antiques, a patchwork flatweave rug, and organic accessories add warmth and comfort to this space.

"The primary bedroom leans into the idea of using primitive crafts done in a fresh way," says Shintaffer. Here, the designer incorporated a hooked rug, which was made using a traditional weaving technique, while its geometric pattern "adds a sense of modernity."

Located above a console near the bed is a large collection of arrowheads that Shintaffer sourced from the surrounding areas and laid out into bold, geometric patterns.
