The human eye can see about 10 million colors. I know — I was surprised when I found that out, too. With that many shades beyond the standard ROYGBIV (let alone all the color combos), rainbow hair trends could go on infinitely. Just imagine the technicolor hair our great-great-great grandchildren will have. For now, one hairstylist combined some of the hottest rainbow hair trends of the moment though into one look that she calls "epic rainbow inspo." Ruby Devine, a hairstylist based in Virginia, gave one of her clients a combination of rainbow roots, underlights, Lisa Frank hair, and sand art hair. Together, the result is visual feast. My eyes don't know which color or element to focus on first.

Devine tells Allure that her ultimate rainbow hair look was inspired by techniques by other hairstylists on Instagram combined with her own "underlights" style. If you aren't familiar with this trend, Devine explains it's a "bold panel of color that is essentially encapsulated with a perimeter of a natural tone." This placement helps create concealable rainbow hair that can go under the radar depending how you style it. In all, "My main goal was to create something I haven't yet using the new Pulp Riot Neon Electric collection," she adds.

To prep her client for underlights, Devine dyed the perimeter of her hair with dark chocolate dye and bleached the middle section. Then, she started coloring the blonde. In each subsection, she brushed on three different colors in a vertical placement using Stephanie Lawrence's popular "sand art" technique. (On Instagram, Lawrence is known as @hairprincesssteph. She's also the mastermind behind the "shine line" trend.)

During the four-hour coloring process, Devine noticed she was accidentally incorporating rainbow roots. She credits Kasey O'Hara, who is better known as @hairbykaseyoh on Instagram, for this part of the look. "Steph and Kasey are both mentors and friends of mine, not to mention incredible artists, so I was so stoked to have created anything inspired by them," Devine says.

The color palette, on the other hand, paid homage to Lisa Frank hair and the brightly colored looks by Kansas–based hair colorist Ursula Goff, AKA @uggoff, creates. Devine worked with eight different Pulp Riot dyes: Nirvana (neon sky blue), Area 51 (lime green), Firefly (electric yellow), Lemon (true yellow), Cupid (fuchsia), Lava (neon orange), Fireball (true red), and Velvet (deep purple-blue). With all those dyes involved, it's safe to say this rainbow hair look is difficult to recreate at home. Leave this one to the pros.
