JARED JOHNSON: When folks were still scouting the 2020 NBA draft class, RJ Hampton was projected to go within the top 5, but he fell off the radar when a hip injury cut his NBL season short and he dropped all the way to the number 24 overall selection in the 2020 draft. He didn't do much while he was in Denver, as he was buried on the depth chart and often found himself collecting DNP-CDs. But with the deadline deal to Orlando, he now joins a team that is very thin on the wings, so he'll have every opportunity to show us what he's truly made of.

He showed some flashes in his Magic debut on Sunday, scoring 10 points on 4-of-8 shooting to go with three rebounds, one assist, one triple, and one steal in 17 minutes off the bench. And he even spent some time operating as the backup point guard with Michael Carter-Williams exiting the game at halftime with a knee injury.

Hampton is a quick, explosive combo guard with a versatile offensive game, and he has all the tools to develop into a solid defender in the league. Now, he's still not quite there as a must-roster player, but he's certainly a guy you should put on your watch list, as this kid has excellent breakout potential playing for this rebuilding Orlando team that is lacking a true star player. Maybe he can be that guy.
