I’ll admit it: I kind of hate washing my hair. Between rushing from my morning workout class to the office and trying to look decent on those days I sleep through my alarm, there’s no denying dry shampoo comes in handy here and there. I used to be obsessed with it—until I realized most products contain gross stuff like butane, propane, alcohol and silicones, not to mention the environmental hazards of aerosol spray cans. So, I bit the bullet and started (groan) washing my hair more regularly. Until my hairdresser introduced me to R+Co Spiritualize Dry Shampoo Mist ($29).
R+Co’s dry shampoo mist is way different than most dry shampoos. For one, it doesn’t contain any of the previously mentioned chemicals and uses a spray bottle instead of an aerosol can. Those two facts alone (plus the cute packaging) were enough for me to give it a whirl.
When I did, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the dry shampoo mist works. There’s no powdery residue and it doesn’t make your scalp dry or itchy or leave your hair looking frizzy. Thanks to natural humectants like glycerin and castor oil, the formula actually helps hair retain moisture, so it keeps looking soft and shiny (aka not oily). It also contains silica, a micronutrient, which helps improve the overall strength and condition of your hair.
To experience clean-looking hair with literally zero effort, all you have to do is spray your roots with the dry shampoo mist and wait about a minute before rubbing it into your scalp. When it dries, your hair looks like you somehow just shampooed your roots without ever getting in the shower. Sometimes I’ll even run the Revlon Hot Air Brush over it to add volume and make my blowout look even fresher.
Suffice it to say, there is a way to end greasy hair days without having to walk around with butane on your head. Isn’t that what we all want?
