An official statement regarding the Phillips's divorce was released, stating the couple are focused on co-parenting for the sake of their two children.

"After informing HM The Queen and members of both families last year, Peter and Autumn jointly agreed to separate," read the official statement. "They had reached the conclusion that this was the best course of action for their two children and ongoing friendship."

The statement continued, "Both families were naturally sad at the announcement, but fully supportive of Peter and Autumn in the joint decision to co parent their children. Both Peter and Autumn will remain in Gloucestershire to bring up their two children where they have been settled for a number of years. Peter & Autumn have requested privacy and compassion for their children while the family continues to adapt to these changes."

Peter, who is a sports marketing consultant, met Autumn in 2003 in Montreal, Canada, at the Formula One Grand Prix. The couple wed at St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle in 2008.

According to People, the couple's two daughters, Savannah and Isla Phillips, are close with their cousins Prince George and Princess Charlotte, and often are spotted together at royal events.

Peter, along with his younger sister, Zara Tindall, were raised without royal titles and aren't considered working members of the royal family. Both Peter and Zara have full-time jobs outside of the royal family.

It's been a tumultuous time within the royal family as the news of the Phillips's divorcing follows Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan's decision to step down as senior royal family members, as well as Prince Andrew's controversial retreat from royal life.
