  • Prince Harry and Prince William have now split their households.

  • According to royal correspondent Roya Nikkhah at The Sunday Times, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry allegedly wanted to act completely independently from Buckingham Palace.

  • Queen Elizabeth didn't approve the couple's move for independence.

With the Kensington Palace split, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were able to establish their own household separate from Prince William and Kate Middleton's. With Meghan and Harry's move to Frogmore Cottage in Windsor, it made sense for the princes to operate separately, especially as William will one day be king.

However, according to The Sunday Times royal correspondent Roya Nikkhah, a source revealed that Meghan and Harry had hoped to act completely independently of Buckingham Palace. Understandably, the Queen vetoed the couple's plan to move outside of the palace's jurisdiction.

A royal source told Nikkhah, "They wanted their household to be entirely independent of Buckingham Palace, but were told 'no'. There is an institutional structure that doesn’t allow that kind of independence. The feeling is that it’s good to have the Sussexes under the jurisdiction of Buckingham Palace, so they can’t just go off and do their own thing.”

Nikkhah also reported that, according to a source, Meghan and Harry had hoped for "total royal freedom," but will instead have their household based at Buckingham Palace. While Frogmore Cottage will be the couple's full-time home, they'll likely have a base in Buckingham Palace for when they're carrying out official business there.

With the creation of their own household, big changes are on the horizon for Meghan and Harry, but "complete independence" is not one of them.
