The Queen & Princess Eugenie Hand Out Bags of Money for Maundy Thursday

Queen Elizabeth II celebrated Maundy Thursday, a Christian holy day celebrated the Thursday before Easter, with a yearly tradition: handing out red purses filled with coins. According to the royal family's Twitter account, each commemorative purse contains a £5 coin which celebrates the 200th anniversary of Queen Victoria's birth, and a 50p coin with Sherlock Holmes.

Every year, the queen visits a different cathedral in the U.K. to distribute the gifts according to the number of years she's lived, according to the royal family. Since the monarch is turning 93 years old this weekend, she handed out coins to 93 men and 93 women today, People reports. For the special occasion, Princess Eugenie of York made a rare joint appearance with her grandmother and took part in the jovial festivities at St. George's Chapel in Windsor.
