Queen of Jokes: Elizabeth Asks ‘What's the Date?’ on Her 72nd Wedding Anniversary

Queen Elizabeth can add comedy to her list of many talents. Her Majesty recently showed off her sense of humor during a solo appearance in London.

On Wednesday evening, the monarch visited the Royal Institute of International Affairs to present an award to Sir David Attenborough and Julian Hector, head of the BBC Natural History Unit, for their work on the Blue Planet II series.

According to People, she made sure to sign the visitors’ book during the event, but not without asking a very important (and ironic) question.

“What’s the date?” she asked Chatham House director Dr. Robin Niblett. When he responded, she added, “Well, of course I know what the date is!”

If you didn’t know, yesterday (November 20) was the queen’s 72nd wedding anniversary to her husband, Prince Philip. However, the royal couple spent the special day apart. Philip, 98, is currently at Sandringham, Norfolk, while her Majesty is in London for a week of royal engagements.

This isn’t uncommon. Last year the royal couple also spent their special day in different locations. The monarch made a solo appearance at the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in London and while we aren’t positive where Phillip was, we’re sure it was important.

Please keep the cheeky jokes coming!
