Queen Elizabeth "Remains in Good Health" as Prince Charles Tests Positive for COVID-19
This morning, Buckingham Palace reaffirmed that Queen Elizabeth is "in good health" following the news that Prince Charles has contracted the novel coronavirus.
“Her Majesty The Queen remains in good health,” reads today's statement. “The Queen last saw The Prince of Wales briefly after the investiture on the morning of 12th March and is following all the appropriate advice with regard to her welfare.”
The Palace also said it would not be commenting further at this time.
After experiencing mild symptoms, Prince Charles tested positive for COVID-19, and is currently self-isolating at Birkhall, his home in Scotland on the Balmoral estate. It is unclear when he caught the virus or from whom, but he was still attending royal engagements as late is mid-March. Clarence House confirmed his diagnosis this morning with a statement:
“The Prince of Wales has tested positive for Coronavirus. He has been displaying mild symptoms but otherwise remains in good health and has been working from home throughout the last few days as usual. The Duchess of Cornwall has also been tested but does not have the virus. In accordance with Government and medical advice, the Prince and the Duchess are now self-isolating at home in Scotland. The tests were carried out by the NHS in Aberdeenshire where they met the criteria required for testing.
“It is not possible to ascertain from whom the Prince caught the virus owing to the high number of engagements he carried out in his public role during recent weeks.”
Queen Elizabeth left London last Thursday, and moved to Windsor Castle a week earlier than planned due to concern over the coronavirus outbreak. She was later joined by Prince Philip, and will likely at the Castle following the Easter holiday as well.
Earlier this week, Boris Johnson announced what is essentially a full lockdown of the United Kingdom in an attempt to get control over the COVID-19 outbreak. As of March 24, 8,077 people in the UK have tested positive for the virus, and 422 patients have died from it.
