The world lost an absolute icon yesterday as Queen Elizabeth II passed away at the age of 96. The quintessential monarch for the modern age, Her Majesty enjoyed a prolifically long reign and life.
Queen Elizabeth II first assumed the throne in 1952, guiding the United Kingdom through decades of social change and upheaval. From historic global events like the fall of the Berlin Wall to more recent domestic affairs like Brexit, The Queen's calming presence always provided a sense of stability.
The Queen certainly had staying power, and many have looked to her diet over the years to get a sense of what contributed to her incredible longevity. Interestingly, Queen Elizabeth II hated one healthy food so much it was banished from all of Buckingham Palace.
"We can never serve anything with garlic or too much onions," McGrady said at the time. "We also couldn't serve meat that was rare, as she liked her meat more well done."
John Higgins, yet another former chef who worked for The Royal Family, corroborated The Queen's disdain for garlic.
"The Queen is a wonderful lady, the royal family are wonderful people but they're missing out on garlic because at Buckingham Palace you don't cook with garlic. I suppose, in case you get the royal burp," he once told The National Post.

So what kinds of foods did The Queen enjoy? According to McGrady, she was very much a seasonal eater.
"You can send strawberries every day to The Queen during summer at Balmoral and she'll never say a word," he explained. "Try including strawberries on the menu in January and she'll scrub out the line and say don't dare send me genetically modified strawberries. She absolutely does eat seasonal."
Besides seasonal foods, it was also well-documented that Queen Elizabeth II had something of a sweet tooth. She was known to enjoy chocolate biscuit cake frequently.
