Queen Elizabeth's Cousin Is Making Royal History in the Best Way Possible

Just when we thought Prince Harry marrying an American divorcee was groundbreaking for spring the British monarchy, this happened.

Lord Ivar Mountbatten (you know, Queen Elizabeth’s cousin) will be the first-ever royal family member to have a—drumroll, please—same-sex wedding. *Breaks into happy dance* He and his partner, James Coyle, will exchange vows this summer at a private chapel in Devon, England, according to The Daily Mail

The best part? Mountbatten will be given away by his ex-wife, Penny Thompson. “It was the girls’ idea,” she said of their three daughters, Ella (22), Alix (20) and Luli (15). “It makes me feel quite emotional. I’m really very touched.”

The announcement comes three years after Lord Mountbatten became the first British aristocrat to come out as gay. Still, we don’t blame the 55-year-old for deciding to take the plunge after the recent festivities at St. George’s Chapel

Watch out, Princess Eugenie. It appears you have some royal wedding competition.
