Quapaw Nation unveils new educational splash pad

QUAPAW, Okla. — People in Quapaw have a new way to beat the heat this summer.

The Quapaw Nation opened its first-ever splash pad today. The grand opening comes after three years of planning. The splash pad was funded by the “Quapaw Nation Child Care Development Fund.” Quapaw Nation officials say while it is designed to be fun, it also acts as a teaching tool.

“It is not only beautiful, but it is educational. All of our co-op, our plans are out on the sprinkler heads. So that’s an opportunity for the kids to learn. And there’s a whole culture, a learning area as well that’ll change based on the season. So it’s a really good way to teach not just co-op us but the entire community more about our traditions and our culture. So we’re really excited about that,” said Wena Supernaw, Quapaw Nation Business Committee Chair.

The splash pad is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
