DavidS: The pattern of disease spreading rapidly in crowded cities and then spreading to the country should not surprise anyone. The pattern is as old as civilization. Also big cities tend to be either on the coast because of ports or inland on old water transportation/rail routes. Detroit started as a trading post connected to the coast by the St. Lawrence River. Chicago was a 19th century rail head. St. Louis is on the Mississippi River. This type of thing moves inward from the coasts, with Des Mones and Omaha probably feeling the hit in a couple weeks. Rural areas don't hit the news as much because the population size does not generate the type of numbers that make national news. A village of 2,000 people with a death rate of 1% will lose 20 people. Not enough to get Fox or CNN to send a chartered plane.
