'Project Runway' winner declares unexpected item a 'superimportant' part of any outfit

Industry leaders took the stage at theCURVYcon for the Dance in Your Underwear: Tips to Live a More Confident Life workshop presented by Fruit of the Loom to talk about the importance of underwear that fits just right. Designer and Project Runway winner Ashley Nell Tipton gave her perspective on the topic and why underwear is a key asset of any outfit.

“It’s about knowing a plus-size woman’s body and the way that we move and the way that we function,” she says. “And it’s superimportant to find the proper undergarments, like underwear, that fit us right.” The designer explains that with so many styles and fits to choose from, finding the perfect fit is an integral part of any outfit, and it’s something she keeps in mind when she’s creating her designs.

“When I’m designing clothing, I’m always thinking of a plus-size body and how we want to feel in our clothing and what it is we want to achieve that day — and if our garments and our clothing are going to be able to allow us to do that,” she explains, stressing the importance of undergarments in the right fit. “Our clothes are just going to lay properly and fit right. You’re not going to see panty lines or anything like that.”

Celebrity stylist Denise Caldwell echoed Tipton’s opinion, adding that Fit for Me by Fruit of the Loom offers options that take something as mundane as underwear and ensure that it anchors any outfit. “That’s the first layer you put on your skin — you don’t want VPLs, visible panty lines, you don’t want the bulging or the uncomfortableness,” she says.

“They really just value their customer. Fruit of the Loom is a household brand, it covers everyone in the family,” she says, describing the technology and fit the brand has offered in the past few years. “So why not include the curvy sisters out there, to make sure that everybody is taken care of…?”
