Every time a celebrity shares their skincare regimen online (i.e. Kate Bosworth, Reese Witherspoon, and yes, Alicia Keys) skincare enthusiasts (*raises hand*) liken it to discovering buried treasure, and Scarlett Johansson’s skincare routine might as well be the holy grail. The 35-year-old actress has earned an Oscar nomination for Best Actress (Marriage Story) and Best Supporting Actress (Jojo Rabbit), so we know she’ll be glowing at the 92nd Annual Academy Awards.

But Johansson admits she “never really had a crazy beauty routine,” she told Vogue in the past. “I’m not one that goes out to spas and gets treatments. If anything, it’s just about trying to find time to go to the gym. You just have to make whatever time you can.”

She’s also a pretty private person (and she’s not on social media to show her lineup of potions in-action), but her makeup artist Frankie Boyd has shared a few of their collective favorites—ones that she will likely use to prep her skin before hopefully nabbing her first Academy Award. Here, all the deets on what keeps her complexion looking radiant on the red carpet.

Boyd preps her skin with a hydrating cream or serum.

The artist told Marie Claire that he makes a little moisturizer cocktail by mixing cult favorite La Mer Moisturizing Soft Cream with a few drops of the brand’s Renewal Oil. Both products have a “Miracle Broth” moisturizing complex that smooths the skin so it’s ready for makeup application.

He does switch it up sometimes, though. While getting her ready for the Golden Globes, Boyd shared on Instagram that he also enjoys The Inkey List’s Hyaluronic Acid Serum and Hemp Oil Moisturizer, which are much more budget friendly. “It’s a little more on the liquidy side,” he said of the serum. “It totally evaporates into the skin and leaves it nice and plump.” The hemp moisturizer contains green tea extract, fatty acids, and hemp seed oil to calm, hydrate, and nourish the skin.

Because she wears so much makeup for work, Johansson has said in the past that she finds the “least aggressive skin regime” works best for her, and that she uses a “very simple non-comedogenic cleanser” before Boyd works his magic.

Then, he applies an eye cream.

Eye cream not only preps the skin for concealer, but for Boyd, it also acts as an eraser to clean up any fallout that may have occurred during eyeshadow application. For this step, he likes to use The Inkey List’s Caffeine Eye Cream, which he says is “a hydrating and lightweight under-eye cream that reduces puffiness and fine lines.” And it’s only $10!

The rest is a mystery, but she focuses on hydration.

I know what you’re thinking. Johansson is stunning, so she has to use some type of anti-aging active ingredient like retinol or vitamin C—and she might. But as of right now, that info is under lock and key.

However, at a 2014 press conference for Soda Stream (of all things?), she did say she intentionally foregoes a stringent routine. “It is probably better to use cleansing milks and creams and things that are more gentle on your skin,” she said. “So I’ve changed my whole beauty regimen to just using milk cleansers and things that are really moisturizing.”
