Priyanka Chopra Jonas has apologised after criticism over 'The Activist' TV show

Priyanka Chopra Jonas has apologised over her role on upcoming TV show The Activist, after the series received criticism online.
Following the backlash, CBS announced this week that The Activist would be changing format from a reality show to a documentary special. Now, Priyanka, who was originally set to be a judge and co-host on the show along with Usher and Julianne Hough, has responded to the criticism herself.
In a statement shared on Instagram, Priyanka apologised for her involvement in the series, saying, "The show got it wrong, and I'm sorry that my participation in it disappointed many of you," telling critics, "You were heard".
She wrote:
"I have been moved by the power of your voices over the past week. At its core, Activism is fuelled by cause and effect, and when people come together to raise their voice about something, there is always an effect.
"You were heard.
"The show got it wrong, and I'm sorry that my participation in it disappointed many of you. The intention was always to bring attention to the people behind the ideas and highlight the actions and impact of the causes they support tirelessly. I'm happy to know that in this new format, their stories will be the highlight, and I'm proud to collaborate with partners who have their ear to the ground and know when it's time to hit pause and re-evaluate."
Priyanka continued on the next slide, acknowledging the work of activists worldwide. She added:
"There is a global community of activists who fight the fight every single day and put their blood, sweat and tears into creating change, but more often than not, they are rarely heard or acknowledged. Their work is so important and they too deserve to be recognized and celebrated. Thank you to each and every one of you for all that you do."
The Activist had initially planned to pair contestants with famous faces as they competed in challenges to promote a chosen world cause. However, following backlash CBS later announced that the show would be reimagined into a documentary special, with each activist being awarded a cash grant for the organisation of their choice.
Julianne Hough, who was initially set to front the show alongside Priyanka and Usher, also shared a statement earlier in the week, responding to criticism surrounding the series, as well as saying she regrets wearing blackface in pictures which surfaced from 2013.
