Princess Kate and Her Lookalike Princess Mary: A Diplomatic Style-Off!

Princess Kate and Her Lookalike Princess Mary: A Diplomatic Style-Off!

Though Princess Kate and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark do diplomatic reception style a bit differently, there’s no denying that they’re both ultra-chic.

Mary stepped out on January 3 in a long-sleeved silver and lace gown. Though she (sadly) left her tiara at home, she did wear a pair of leaf-shaped sparkling diamond earrings. She also wore a light blue sash to signify the Order of the Elephant.

Kate attended her own country’s diplomatic reception, held a little earlier than Denmark’s, back on December 16. She wore a familiar dress for the occasion, a red Jenny Packham number that we saw at the China State Dinner in October 2015. Her outfit didn’t lack dazzle: In addition to a pair of stunning earrings and a bracelet, she wore a pearl-and-diamond tiara, the Cambridge Lover’s Knot.

The tiara was one of Princess Diana’s favorites. It was given to her as a wedding gift from the Queen back in 1981.

Unlike Mary — and the rest of the senior British royals — Kate is not yet a member of an order, which means that she doesn’t have a sash to wear for occasions such as this. However, she’ll surely have one to come in future years: Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall was awarded her own order two years after her wedding, so it can take some time.
