Who Are Princess Diana’s Sisters?

While the eyes of the world were fixed on Princes William and Harry after Princess Diana’s tragic death, her two young sons weren’t the only ones mourning the loss of a beloved family member.

In addition to her mother, Frances Ruth Shand Kydd, Diane left behind three siblings. Though it was her younger brother Charles, 9th Earl Spencer, who delivered a heartbreaking eulogy at her funeral, it’s Diana’s two older sisters who shaped her remarkable life.

Six years her senior, eldest sister Lady Sarah McCorquodale actually dated Prince Charles first and, after their romance faded, was the one who introduced him to a then 16-year-old Diana. “I’m Cupid,” she reportedly said at the time of their engagement in 1981.

Despite the fact that she married her ex, Lady Sarah remained close with Princess Di throughout the years, and often traveled with her as an “unofficial lady-in-waiting.” And as her marriage to Charles crumbled, Diana even referred to Sarah as “the only person I know I can trust.”

As things fell apart with Charles, so did her relationship with her other sister, Lady Jane Fellowes. Jane’s husband Robert Fellowes was promoted to the Queen’s private secretary in 1990, leaving Jane stuck between her sister and her husband’s loyalty to the royal establishment. It has been reported that they barely spoke during the last year and a half of Diana’s life.

But that’s not to say that there’s any lingering bad blood there. In fact, Jane’s daughter Laura was named one of Princess Charlotte’s godparents in 2015. And in 2018, it was Jane who gave a reading at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding.
