Prince William Says He ‘Can’t Do’ His Children’s Math Homework

The coronavirus pandemic has forced many parents to unexpectedly assume the role of homeschool teacher for their children. While some people are thriving, others (like Prince William) are starting to realize they’re not cut out for homework.

The Duke of Cambridge, 38, made a rare appearance on That Peter Crouch Podcast, where he candidly chatted with the host about self-isolation. Although it’s officially summer, the royal admitted that he was out of his element at the beginning of the lockdown, especially when he was tasked with homeschooling his three children: Prince George (7), Princess Charlotte (5) and Prince Louis (2).

When asked what he’s learned, Prince William said, “Probably that my patience is a lot shorter than I thought it was…and that my wife [Kate Middleton] has a lot of patience.”

Prince William also joked that he’s rusty when it comes to mathematics—so much so that he struggles to keep up with their homework. “I was a bit embarrassed about my maths knowledge,” he said. “I can’t do year two maths!” (Unlike in the U.S., Brits use the plural version of “maths,” instead of “math.”)

Prior to the pandemic, both Prince George and Princess Charlotte were enrolled at Thomas’s Battersea in London. The school curriculum included everything from foreign languages to religious studies and even ballet.

Just wait until the Cambridge kids enter secondary school, that’s when the real homework begins.
