Prince William is now halfway to being fully vaccinated against COVID-19, having received his first dose of the vaccine earlier this week.

The Prince revealed that he'd received the shot in a post on the official Twitter account he shares with his wife, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge.

"On Tuesday I received my first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine," William wrote. "To all those working on the vaccine rollout - thank you for everything you've done and continue to do."

The Duke of Cambridge received his first dose at a National Health Service facility located at the Science Museum in London's Kensington, close to his home at Kensington Palace.

It's likely that the Prince already has some immunity to the virus, because it was revealed last fall that he contracted COVID-19 early in the pandemic, around the same time his father Prince Charles also fell ill. After being diagnosed in the spring, William self-isolated at home per UK government guidelines, and was treated by doctors at his country home in Norfolk.

While Prince Charles's diagnosis was made public, William opted to keep his own illness a secret. He was reportedly "hit pretty hard by the virus” and was at one point "struggling to breathe," but nonetheless he continued to work. "William was determined it should be business as usual,” a source said. "He was determined to fulfill his engagements."

As of this week, everyone over the age of 36 in the UK is eligible for their first dose of the vaccine. More than half of the population has now received at least one dose. The Queen has received both doses, as have Prince Charles and Camilla.
