Prince William & Kate Middleton's Morning Kids Routine is Not What You'd Expect From Royals
Royal carpool, anyone? Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge already take 5-year-old Prince George to school every morning and, soon, the family’s morning commute will grow by one. Kensington Palace confirmed on Friday that Princess Charlotte will attend Thomas’s Battersea in the fall, the same primary school at which big bro George is a student. The school’s southwest London location makes it a half-hour drive from Kensington Palace, meaning the four royals will have time to squeeze in a bit of last-minute bonding before parting ways for the day.
It’s not a huge surprise that Charlotte will be joining George at Thomas’s Battersea. Per Vanity Fair, William and Kate put a lot of thought into choosing the primary school for their children. While the somewhat-tedious drive across the capital might deter some — and, yes, Will and Kate do school drop-off themselves — the royal couple felt the school had enough to offer to outweigh the commute. “The plan was always for Charlotte to follow George to Thomas’s, so Louis will probably also be going. William and Kate are very happy,” a family source told the outlet.

Despite William and Kate’s ever-growing royal responsibilities, the pair clearly continues to be extremely involved in the lives of their three children. Sure, killing nearly an hour each morning in the car followed by the dreaded drop-off line is run-of-the-mill for most of us plebian parents. But for a royal? It’s kind of a big deal, knowing that they could easily have a car service and royal nannies take care of something as alarmingly normal as taking their kiddos to school. Besides, we commoners don’t have to contend with things like paparazzi and the prying eyes of the public trying to catch a glimpse of us as we roll through the rider line at school. Let alone have a meeting with a head of state clogging up our work calendar.
In fact, where the little royals’ education is concerned, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have taken a truly hands-on approach. “They are part of the school community,” the source shared. “They get on with the head and they have been thrilled with how much George has come on since he started.” They reportedly intend to remain entrenched with the progressive primary school, especially as its rumored expansion could include adding a secondary school over the next two years.
For the moment, the school’s focus is on the addition of its newest student. “We are delighted that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have decided that Princess Charlotte will join her elder brother, Prince George, at Thomas’s Battersea. We greatly look forward to welcoming her and all of our new pupils to the school in September,” the school’s headmaster said in a statement.
And it would seem Charlotte has plenty to look forward to as well. Not only will she be attending school with her big brother, but the school also offers a wide range of dynamic classes and extracurriculars (think ballet, drama and French, per its website). And according to Vanity Fair’s source, “Charlotte has got a real character; she is very excited about starting school.”
