“This is the @earthshotprize in action!” the caption read. “See how @coralvitareefs is regrowing our world’s dying reefs and restoring eco-systems. Watch the full video on YouTube: link in bio.”
In the video (which you can watch in full here), the Prince of Wales is seen wearing a swimsuit and long-sleeve top with flippers while snorkeling in Grand Bahama.
The context of the video was revealed on the Coral Vita Instagram account, with a different clip that was captioned, “Grateful, honored, and thrilled to have taken @princeandprincessofwales to plant coral in Grand Bahama in 2022 through @earthshotprize. It was an incredibly fun and meaningful experience. More importantly, it shines a spotlight on not only Coral Vita’s model and work, but also the urgent need to protect ocean health and the global community of practitioners fighting to preserve coral reefs for future generations.”
This past week, the Prince of Wales journeyed to Singapore for the 2023 Earthshot Prize Awards, where five winners were honored for their efforts in helping the planet through technology and innovation.
For the event, the royal hosted a group of celebrity guests, hosts and performers, including Hannah Waddingham, Lana Condor, OneRepublic, Cate Blanchett, Robert Irwin and more.
When Prince William embarked on this snorkeling excursion, he was continuing in a family tradition of sea exploration. Just a couple months ago, we learned that his dad, King Charles III, was the first-ever British monarch to be a qualified diver. Seems both father and son love a little underwater diving.
You never fail to impress us, William.
