Prince William Is "Deeply Frustrated" That 'The Crown' Will Cover Princess Diana's Panorama Interview

The Crown is currently filming its upcoming season, and it looks like the show will potentially cover Princess Diana's Panorama interview with Martin Bashir, which was obtained unethically. According to The Daily Mail, The Crown is set to dedicate "an entire episode" of the upcoming fifth season to the interview, in which Diana spoke about her marriage to Prince Charles.

Additionally, a source tells The Sun that "The Crown’s creators see the interview as the keystone moment in series five. To the writers, the stormy marriage between Charles and Di led up to her outpouring on Panorama, and the aftermath of that decision defined her final months. They are making a huge investment in that. The Crown has a track record of delving into areas of the Royal Family's history they’d rather be left alone.”

An investigation was recently conducted into the interview, which found that Martin Bashir used “deceitful behavior,” as well as false bank statements, to convince Diana to speak with him. Prince William gave a statement at the time of the investigation, making it clear that he never wants the interview to air again:

"It is my firm view that this Panorama program holds no legitimacy and should never be aired again. It effectively established a false narrative which, for over a quarter of a century, has been commercialized by the BBC and others."

The Telegraph now reports that William is "frustrated" at The Crown's "commercialization" of the interview, though he hasn't spoken out about it himself at this point. FYI that the BBC holds the copyright to the interview, and said in a statement, “The BBC has said it has no intention of showing the interview again. We have had no interaction on this specific issue with Netflix .”
