Prince William Calls England's Loss to Italy "Heartbreaking"
Football's not coming home—at least not today. In a brutal loss, Italy beat England after extra time, with the winner determined by a penalty shootout. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their young son Prince George were all in attendance at today's match at Wembley Stadium, and they experienced the full range of emotions during the competition: ecstasy when England scored during the first five minutes of play, and such sadness when they couldn't pull off a win.
In a personal message, Prince William tweeted that the outcome of the game was "heartbreaking," while also congratulating the Italian team on their victory.
"Heartbreaking. Congratulations @Azzurri on a great victory," he wrote. "@England, you’ve all come so far, but sadly this time it wasn’t our day. You can all hold your heads high, and be so proud of yourselves — I know there’s more to come." He personally signed the tweet, "W."

Previously George, William, and Kate, had cheered the Three Lions to victory during an earlier tournament match against Germany, which was also held at Wembley. And earlier today, Prince William wished the whole team good luck, sharing a personal video message on Twitter.
"Gareth, Harry, and to every member of the England team on or off the pitch, just want to wish you the very best of luck for tonight," he said. "Can't really believe this is happening. So exciting, and just wish you the very best of luck. You bring out the very best of England, and we are all behind, you the whole country is behind you. So bring it home."
Wishing Gareth and all the players good luck tonight!
