When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle initially announced their decision to step back from their roles as senior royals, it soon became clear that the details had yet to be worked out. But today, royal watchers finally got a few key clarifications, thanks to statements from Queen Elizabeth and Buckingham Palace.

Among the new arrangements detailed in the Palace's message, it was noted that Harry and Meghan are "required to step back from Royal duties, including official military appointments." The latter largely applies to Prince Harry, who, following his own 10-year military career, was given a few important roles in the UK's armed forces.

In 2017, Harry was made the Captain General of the Royal Marines, succeeding his grandfather, Prince Philip, who had previously held the position. According to the royal family's official website, Harry was also Commodore-in-Chief of the Royal Navy, and Honorary Air Commandant of Royal Air Force Honnington. It seems that Harry will now step back from all of these appointments.

Harry has frequently spoken about how important his time in the army was to him, explaining that during his service, "I wasn’t a Prince, I was just Harry." In recent days, the prince's former colleagues have voiced their support of his and Meghan's decision to pursue a new "working model."

"I personally served with Harry in Afghan 2012/13 and think hes a top bloke, hes done amazing things with the INVICTUS games, supporting wounded and injured soldiers so we need to do the same for him. Get behind him when he needs our country and back him in whatever he chooses," the tweet read.

Several others—including veteran and Paralympian Micky Yule, and onetime Royal Marines commando and current TV presenter JJ Chalmers, former British Special Forces soldier Dean Stott, and more—wrote about their support of Harry as well.
