Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Weren’t Allowed to Photograph the Queen Meeting Lilibet

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are back in the United States after a quick trip to England, where they celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with the royal family and threw their daughter, Lilibet, a cute 1st birthday party at Frogmore Cottage.

This was Lilibet’s first time in England and her first time meeting her namesake—so obviously a huge moment! But apparently, the Sussexes were told cameras couldn’t be present, which is kind of a bummer.

Lili and Her Majesty met on Thursday amid Trooping the Colour, and The Sun reports that Meghan and Harry wanted to bring a photographer to capture their meeting (understandable!) but were told no. Why, you ask? Apparently, the royals were concerned that the photo would be shared.

Considering Lilibet is literally Her Majesty’s great-granddaughter, it makes sense that the Sussexes would want a picture. However, they did release a photo of Lilibet at her party:

TBD whether the Queen was in attendance, but a source told The Sun that “it was a lovely do and had everything you’d expect from a child’s birthday party. But there was no formal entertainment. The idea was for it to be very relaxed and casual, with people free to pop in and out as they wished. It was a nice opportunity for the other royal children to meet Lilibet for the first time. And as her 1st birthday is such a milestone, there was lots of discussion ahead of time about the presents that she would be given on the day. One idea that proved very popular was a £75 pink Volkswagen Beetle ride-on toy, which had been spotted in Selfridges.”
