As worldwide protests against police brutality continue to fuel the Black Lives Matter movement, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are becoming more involved in racial justice. One such piece of their expanded activism was a recently revealed conversation with the NAACP.

NAACP President Derrick Johnson spoke with OprahMag.com, detailing his discussion with the royal couple.

"After the George Floyd incident, we did have a conversation with them about just the state of things, as they were exploring ways that they could be supportive, in that moment," Johnson said.

The NAACP President expressed gratitude for Meghan and Harry's involvement and noted their passion for issues of racial injustice.

Johnson noted, "I think their concern and compassion is genuine and we really appreciate their thought partnership on how to address this most immediate issue we have."

This conversation with the NAACP comes alongside Harry and Meghan's other activist work surrounding civil rights. Recently, the pair discussed systemic racism in a video call with young leaders and supported the Facebook advertising boycott as part of the Stop Hate for Profit campaign. As compared to the other members of the British royal family, Harry and Meghan have been quite vocal about their support of Black Lives Matter.

Johnson believes this activism is, in part, due to the couple's personal connection with the subject matter.

"Like many people, they recognize the danger social media platforms have on society. They recognize it from a very personal space," he said. "They have been very helpful in terms of talking about how this impacts people, seeking solutions to this systemic problem, and very supportive thought partners in the process."

While Johnson does call Harry and Meghan "very supportive thought partners," it's unclear whether this conversation will be the start of a more continuous affiliation with the organization. However, the couple does believe further action is required in order to create change.

As Prince Harry said in a recent video call, "So many people have done such an amazing incredible job of acknowledging the past and trying to right those wrongs, but I think we all acknowledge on there there is so much more still to do."
