Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Royal Birthday Party for Lilibet Sounds So Cute

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle threw their daughter, Lilibet, a low-key 1st birthday party while they were in the UK over the weekend, and apparently it was a super-chill vibe—despite being attended by multiple royals.

The Sun reports that the couple went with an “informal garden party” with “picnic-style snacks” and party games and encouraged their guests to drop in whenever they wanted to. While Prince William and Kate Middleton didn’t attend, the Queen was invited to the event, as were Zara and Mike Tindall and Archie’s godfather Charlie Van Straubenzee.

“It was a lovely do and had everything you’d expect from a child’s birthday party,” a source said. “But there was no formal entertainment. The idea was for it to be very relaxed and casual, with people free to pop in and out as they wished. It was a nice opportunity for the other royal children to meet Lilibet for the first time. And as her 1st birthday is such a milestone, there was lots of discussion ahead of time about the presents that she would be given on the day. One idea that proved very popular was a £75 pink Volkswagen Beetle ride-on toy, which had been spotted in Selfridges.”

Psst: Before you side-eye Kate and Wills for not being at the event with their kids (Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and the legendary Prince Louis), a source tells Entertainment Tonight that they were at a previously planned Jubilee event in Wales and “it’s simply a coincidence they fell on the same day. There was no intended slight.”
