Queen Elizabeth Requests That Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Come Back to England
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's new roles don't fully go into effect until spring 2020.
They're reportedly going to return to England in March for the last of their royal engagements, at Queen Elizabeth's request.
So, amid all of the lifestyle changes going on for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry right now—they gave up their royal titles, left England for Canada, and now have to make their own money—you might have missed one crucial part of their step-down agreement: It doesn't fully kick in for a few months. At the very bottom of Buckingham Palace's statement regarding Meghan and Harry's new roles, it says, "This new model will take effect in the spring of 2020."
And what does that mean for Meghan and Harry? Well, the details aren't exactly clear, but it does put a new report from The Sunday Times into perspective. According to the outlet, the Queen requested that the Duke and Duchess return to England next month to attend the annual Commonwealth Service with the rest of the royal family. And since they're still technically working royals, it seems like they're going to go.
The service is on March 9 (mark your cals, people!) and will be part of Meghan and Harry's "final round of official engagements before returning to their new base in Canada." It's also expected that the royal couple will bring Archie with them to England for their visit.
Let's all also note that this comes after Prince Harry said that he "does not regret" stepping down from the royal family, so it should be interesting to see how he and Meghan interact with the rest of the fam!
